Queensland Chief Entrepreneur Meets with Gold Coast Businesses on the Road to Recovery

With restrictions lifting across the Gold Coast and meeting and conference venues finally able to re-open their doors, the Queensland Chief Entrepreneur, Leanne Kemp, wasted no time in getting back out to our region to connect with industry leaders, innovators, startups, scaleups and community organisations on Monday.

The Gold Coast Innovation Hub were thrilled to work with Village Roadshow Theme Parks and Seaworld Resort to host the full day of meetings in their fantastic facilities with a great team of staff taking care of all of the social distancing and sanitation requirements to keep our guests safe and comfortable.

The day comprised of 3 interactive sessions to engage with a broad section of the business and innovation community, ensuring a good cross section of people could share their voice and take action as the Queensland Government works to map and establish a cohesive platform for reopening the economy.

The first session of the day was a corporate roundtable facilitated by GC Hub Director, Debby Lo-Dean, with representation from a number of Gold Coast Innovation Hub partners like Opmantek and 42 Ventures, as well as corporate and industry representatives including RACQ, ACS, TAFE and Study Gold Coast sharing how they had been impacted by COVID-19 and the steps required to commence recovery.

The second session gave Startups and Scaleups, many of which originally ‘fell through the cracks’ for federal government stimulus measures, a chance to share the impact of social distancing and shut downs on them.  The session revealed those that were in the process of raising capital were amongst the hardest hit but also showed some new opportunities emerging as the world embraces technology to work around travel restrictions.

The final session for the day was an Ecosystem Leaders workshop facilitated by Bernard Schokman from Design Moshpit.  This session brought together representatives  from a range of community organisations, coworking spaces and investors to formulate a support plan for the region to ensure that all businesses on the Gold Coast have a support structure around them as they work towards economic recovery.

The Gold Coast Innovation Hub would like to thank everyone that attended the workshops and Leanne Kemp for her input and ongoing support of regional innovation.  We look forward to seeing the outcomes of these sessions play out over the next few months!
