The Gold Coast Innovation Hub has been awarded an additional $75,000 over the next 3 years under the Queensland government’s Regional Startup Hubs Support Program.
The Gold Coast Innovation Hub is one of 20 startup hubs across regional Queensland that are set to receive a $1.29 million boost in funding through the program.
In a media statement released on Friday (http://statements.qld.gov.au/Statement/2019/6/14/funding-boost-for-queensland-regional-innovators), Innovation Minister Kate Jones said “We want to support startups to grow so we can create jobs in regional Queensland,”
“These hubs are vital to turning small businesses into larger businesses. We’re investing in these centres to make sure every Queensland startup – no matter where they are in our state – have access to the advice and resources they need to scale up.”
Funding will go towards administration support, networking activities, startup weekends and events and education and skills programs to support local startups.
Gold Coast Innovation Hub CEO, Sharon Hunneybell welcomed the additional funding investment into the organisation. “The Gold Coast Innovation Hub opened the city’s first dedicated business incubator and event space late last year and it has already had a demonstratable impact on the region.” she said.
“Over 7,5000 people have attended more than 240 events and activities at the facility since opening – many of these are key events that business owners previously had to make the decision to lose 3-4hrs of their workday making the commute to Brisbane to attend.”
“This new funding will allow us to bring onboard additional administrative and marketing resources that will ensure that we can continue to meet and exceed community demand and expectations from this much needed business facility.”
