Brunch Like A Boss | April Event Recap

On Tuesday the 27th of April we were blessed with a gorgeous, warm and sunny autumn morning as business women from all over the Gold Coast and Brisbane regions came together for the GC Hub’s second Brunch Like A Boss event.

Due to the increase of interest and enquiry after our last successful Brunch Like A Boss event, we had to sadly say goodbye to the beautiful event space at Third Base Coffee, Palm Beach and move over to a larger event space at The Henchman, Miami.

This month’s Brunch Like A Boss was graciously sponsored by two amazing female founded businesses. A special thank you to Marie-Anne Anderson and her team at SheEO, alongside Marlie Jolanda and her team at SisinBiz for kindly sponsoring our event.

For our female founder story, we were joined by Emma Patterson, founder and CEO of Indirectory. Indirectory is an app  where retailers and wholesalers meet – it is a free B2B networking app that connects compatible product brands and stores simply and quickly. At Indirectory, users swipe right to ‘like’ or left to ‘skip’ each other’s profiles. Emma Patterson, founder of Indirectory, wanted to create a ‘dating like’ app for businesses to easily connect to stockists or as Emma likes to put it, “a tinder for trade shows!”.

Following our female founder story, we were joined by our April guest speaker, Meghan Jarvis,   CEO  at Wellcorp Health and Wellness and co-founder  of Buzvil – a digital platform creating a gateway to complete holistic health and fitness freedom.   Meghan  is currently the national ambassador and master coach for CrankIt Fitness and Precor, a member of the Professional Speakers Association of Australia presenting  internationally at large conventions such as Filex (the biggest fitness convention in the Southern Hemisphere). Meghan has a lifetime of experience with professional sports, first starting out in BMXing, to university level basketball in Canada where she was recruited to play for Perth in Australia. Her most recent sporting achievements was her selection for the first Australian Ninja Warrior series.

Meghan spoke about  how her wildly authentic business came to be and that the reason she was able to go places was because she chose to just be herself!  She shared some awesome tips on the major 3  questions  that  any business should be able to answer before going for their first major partnership.  With only having  100 downloads with her app,  Meghan  approached Uber  (her first major partnership) where she was asked these 3 questions:

      1. What is your why?
      2. Why are you doing this?
      3. How can we help you?

Know the answers to these questions and know them with confidence! If you believe in your business succeeding and leading to great things, so will the  company you’re pitching too! Don’t underestimate yourself – even small companies can do deals with Uber!

After being released from her position as a lead after hours lecturer, Meghan was finally able to answer to her call to adventure. She then  shared  her 3 C’s  that were heavily associated with her call to adventure.

      1. Have COURAGE
      2. Have CONFIDENCE
      3. Grow your CONNECTIONS

Meghan explained the importance of these 3 C’s   alongside   the 5 second rule of comfortability by Mel Robbin’s – to take opportunities within the first 5 seconds of being offered  it before your brain shuts you off from that opportunity and starts giving you doubts and fears.  Meghan stands by this rule and has been able to take on such amazing opportunities because of it.  You can find out more about Mel Robbin’s  5 second  rule here!

To finish up, Meghan  left us with some amazing advice for any business man or woman  who is just starting out or who needs a pep talk to keep striving for more.  Here is what Meghan had to say.

“Confidence is built by being pushed down, so continue to get up and build your confidence more and more each time.” ~   Meghan  Jarvis

“You are never going to feel like doing it! Use the 5 second rule before you start letting your brain doubt!” ~   Meghan  Jarvis

“Use pitching to your advantage.  Go out and connect! Go out of your comfort zone! Try something new! Connect with someone new!”   ~   Meghan  Jarvis
