TOPIC: Fostering innovation by thinking with your hands. What is Lego Serious Play?

Steve Dalton is a Software/Electronic Engineer and Entrepreneur based on the Gold Coast. His company, Refactor, specialises in Agile software development and has provided technical mentorship for a large number of companies, ranging from early-stage startups to large banks.

LEGO® Serious Play (LSP) is a facilitation methodology developed at The Lego Group – it is used extensively internally at LEGO and has rapidly spread in the last 15 years to be now used at many organisations globally. Its goal is improving creative thinking and communication. People build with Lego bricks 3-dimensional models of their ideas and tell stories about their models. Hence the name “”serious play””.

Steve is a facilitator in this method and the purpose of the session today is to introduce the concept, it’s history and the scientific underpinnings. In the short amount of time, we will do a small Lego Serious Play exercise with some pieces you will be able to take home with you and use every time you need a bit of inspiration.

Steve conducts regular full-length Lego Serious Play sessions every month at the GCHub. These are free under the Business Station program.
