Interview with Lindy Chen, Founder of Frethan Technology
Can you tell us a bit about Frethan Technology?
Lindy Chen: Frethan Technology is at the forefront of revolutionising the importing business. We’ve taken the well-established End-to-End Importing Business processes that I have developed over 20 years of helping businesses source goods from overseas and infused them with cutting-edge Blockchain technology. Our focus is on simplicity and efficiency, enabling users to import products with minimal effort. It’s akin to having a personal import agent handling all the complex aspects for you. Initially, we are focusing on trade between China and Australia, but our vision is to expand this service to the USA, UK, New Zealand, and other global markets.
How did your journey with the Gold Coast Innovation Hub begin?
Lindy Chen: My journey with the Gold Coast Innovation Hub started when I applied for the Rapid Regtech Accelerator in late 2020. This was a 6-week program aimed at assisting startup founders who were developing technology solutions for digital compliance enhancement. I was fortunate to be one of the six businesses accepted into the program, which was a significant milestone for Frethan.
How has the Gold Coast Innovation Hub contributed to your startup journey?
Lindy Chen: Joining the GC Hub accelerator was a pivotal moment for Frethan. It opened up a network of vital connections that have been instrumental in our growth. Through the GC Hub, we were able to find our lawyers and R&D tax accountants, both of whom were referred by the Hub. It also led me to meet our lead investor for our pre-seed funding round, Angel Loop, who have facilitated our capital raising roadshow and introduced us to the Accelerating Commercialisation Grant, which we were successfully awarded. The support and resources provided by the GC Hub have been invaluable during this experience.
Where does Frethan Technology stand today?
Lindy Chen: Today, Frethan is celebrating significant achievements. Following our pre-seed capital raise in 2021 and the development of our Minimum Viable Product with co-funding from the Australian Government’s Accelerating Commercialisation grant, we’ve reached new heights. We’ve secured over $100 million in procurement agreements for importing goods from China and have been recognised with numerous awards. This February, we’re hosting a milestone celebration event to mark our latest $2 million seed round, the establishment of new partnerships and clients, and the public launch of our platform.
