It’s been an exciting couple of months for the Gold Coast Tech and Innovation Sector with successful capital raises announced by Carton Cloud, Frethan, and Cinefly and the recent acquisitions of Opmantek and onPlatinum.
The Gold Coast ecosystem is growing up, and the Gold Coast Innovation Hub have committed to put a greater focus and improve support for the early stage investment sector in the region for 2022. We are kicking this off with:
Bi-Monthly Investment Evenings
The first Investment evening for 2022 will take place on Wednesday 9th March from 5.30pm at the Hotel CBD. The events are being delivered collaboratively with support from the Gold Coast Innovation Hub, 42 Ventures, Gold Coast Angels, and Angel Loop. The evenings will provide an opportunity for up to 3 pre-screened businesses to pitch. A full calendar of GC Hub events including all of the Investment evenings for the year can be downloaded here.
Early Stage Investor Education
As announced at our inaugural investment evening in November, we are also supporting Gold Coasters that would like to become Angel Investors. The first Early Stage Investor course will be delivered by Angel Loop’s Simon Horne at the University of Queensland on Thursday 31 March – Friday 1 April 2022.
This course provides the necessary financial literacy pathways to enable attendees to be recognised as sophisticated investors under Section 761GA of the Corporations Act, 2001. According to the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA) Code of Ethics, wealth is not the sole determinate of whether an investor is a sophisticated/wholesale investor with respect to early-stage investments.
